Slip Stitch

Slip Stitch is an addition to a 1920s home in a former streetcar neighborhood where today the dwellings, porches, front yards, and sidewalks support the rich social life of the community, much as when they were originally constructed. Accordingly, this barely noticeable addition leaves the house’s relationship to the public street unchanged. At the same time the addition’s complex spatial flows, volumetric play, and tactical openings transform relationships between interior and exterior to fulfill expectations of a 21st century dwelling around the side and back of the house.
