The Deck House was designed as a simple retreat to fulfill the client’s desire for a tree house in which to escape the work and heat of his daily life in Charleston, SC. It is designed to immerse its inhabitants in the forest. The project is located on a remote and densely forested two acre lot. The site is left largely undeveloped – to ensure privacy from future neighbors, and to retain the site’s untouched flora, fauna and habitat. The long narrow bar of the plan limits the intrusion of vehicles and construction while permitting deep penetration into the forest in which the composition is ensconced.
